Over the years, Kenya and Sudan have realized enhanced co-operation in various fields such as trade, social, cultural, political and peacekeeping efforts. Kenyan troops are serving under United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) and United Nationas-Africanin Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in South Sudan and Darfur respectively.

In February 2006, we opened a Consulate in Juba, the seat of the Government of South Sudan (GoSS) to enhance bilateral reations with GoSS and provide consular services to Kenyans and Southern Sudanese. Ambassador Dr. Joseph Kipkemoi Kiplagat was appointed the first Counsul General and reported to Juba in December 2007.

The Government of Kenya (GoK) and the South Sudanese government (GoSS) signed an agreement on Technical, Economic and Cultural Co-operation in July 2006, for Kenya to contribute in the reconstruction of Southern Sudan.
